This class is for high school students interested in raising their ACT scores. For the 9th and 10th grade students there will be a lot of math that will be new to them but it will be a good introduction to the new math skills.

These classes will be extremely concentrated with instruction and practicing of the exact skills needed to be successful on the ACT. The curriculum will include math, science, reading, English and good test taking strategies. 12 new skills will be presented each week. A pretest and a post test will be completed by the students at the beginning and end of the session.

Since this is a 4 hour class, there will be a 15 minute break for the students to stretch. Each student will need to bring a good snack and drink because thinking that hard requires a lot of energy!

Optional: Each student will need to bring a TI83 calculator. This calculator is permissible for use on the ACT exam.

The class will be taught by Mrs. Tamara Peppers. I had the privilege of teaching with Tamara for several years at Hazel Green Elementary. She is a dedicated and concerned teacher. She takes great pride in seeing her students succeed.

About Mrs. Peppers:
First and foremost Tamara Peppers loves to teach and learn. Mrs.Peppers has 28 years teaching experience in the Madison County school system. During this time she taught both children and fellow teachers. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from the University of Alabama Huntsville, a Master’s Degree from Alabama A&M University, and an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She received National Board Certification in 2005. Because of her innovative teaching strategies and her intense professional development Mrs. Peppers received the 2009 Alabama Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs.Peppers was named the 2010 Madison County Elementary Teacher of the Year. She has recently retired from public education but continues to pursue opportunities to teach and learn.

Hopefully we can talk Mrs. Peppers into doing these classes for us again this summer so we can include public school kids!!
